Betsy Devos is a businesswoman who is greatly recognized in the United States due to her tremendous contributions towards philanthropy and the education industry. Since February 2017, she has been working for the Donald Trump government as the secretary for education. Betsy comes from a wealthy background and her father, Edgar Prince, is the proprietor of the Prince Corporation, which a leading automobile parts manufacturer. She was born in Holland, Michigan and attended the Calvin College to pursue her B.A degree. Betsy’s husband is the heir to the Amway and is also a well-recognized businessman.
Betsy Devos came to the lime lights due to the contributions that she made to the Michigan Republican Party as from 1982. She acted as the Michigan delegate of the party as from 1986, and he was appointed to the Michigan’s Republican National Committee in 1992. Mrs. DeVos served the committee until 1997. She was on the front line in raising campaign funds to support the re-election bid of President George W. Bush in 2004. The Republican Party has received substantial support from her family. They have donated $17 million to fund the campaigns of different candidates that they support.
Dick and Betsy DeVos have been giving back to the community since 1989 when they established a family philanthropy foundation that is called DeVos Family Foundation. They have dedicated themselves to facilitating issues such as leadership, arts, education, and justice. The family donated $11.6 million in 2015, and they have offered a total of about $139 million. In the same year, they were ranked as the 24 most generous family in the United States.
